fix: notify PRs and issues for prerelease versions - #431
Release comments were silently skipped for prerelease versions. In TanStack/db’s latest release, 1.0.0-rc.1.4 published successfully, but this action parsed each changelog heading as 1.0.0, found no matching PRs, and exited successfully without notifying the PR or its linked issue.
Match the complete version heading and stop at the next section. Stable releases also stop collecting PRs from prerelease sections that share their numeric prefix. Normalize changelog anchors for build metadata and uppercase identifiers.
Add a dependency-free integration test that runs the actual action against fixture changelogs and a recording gh stub. It checks exact PR and linked-issue targets, version text, changelog links, neighboring RC versions, stable/beta/build versions, and a missing version. Add this test to PR CI.
✅ Checklist
Followed the applicable contributing guidance.
node --test .github/comment-on-release/comment-on-release.test.mjs: nine tests pass. The identical suite rejects unchanged main with eight failures; the missing-version test passes on both.
Prettier and git diff --check pass.
Full pnpm test:pr was not run locally; repository checks run in GitHub CI. The action tests need no installed dependencies and make no network calls.
🚀 Release Impact
This change is CI-only; no npm package release or changeset is needed. Consumers pinned to a commit will need to update their action pin after merge.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Release comments now correctly match changelog entries for prerelease and build-metadata versions, and link to the corresponding version-specific section.
When no matching changelog entry exists, no comments are posted and a not-found message is shown.
Tests
Added coverage for release-comment behavior across standard, prerelease, and build-metadata versions.
Merging this PR will not cause a version bump for any packages. If these changes should not result in a new version, you're good to go. If these changes should result in a version bump, you need to add a changeset.
This PR includes no changesets
When changesets are added to this PR, you'll see the packages that this PR includes changesets for and the associated semver types
The release comment action now matches complete changelog version headings, including prerelease and build suffixes, and creates corresponding PR and issue anchors. Tests cover matching and missing versions. The PR workflow runs the new tests.

Summary
Full-version matching and anchors .github/comment-on-release/comment-on-release.ts
The action compares trimmed changelog headings with the full published version. PR and issue anchors lowercase the version and remove periods and plus signs.
Release comment tests and CI .github/comment-on-release/comment-on-release.test.mjs, .github/workflows/pr.yml
Tests use a temporary changelog and local gh recorder to check comments for eight release versions and no comments for a missing version. The PR test job runs the test file.
The test can fail for developers whose temporary directory is inside the repository. This is a bounded workflow issue that can be fixed or accepted before merge.
